Book Review: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

Rating: ★★★★☆(4/5)

Introduction:

Released April 2023. Read February 2025.

This is the 2nd out of the Part of Your World Trilogy. I read them out of order thanks to what was available on my Libby App. I read 3 then 1 and 2. I will say that if you read them out of order then the endings will be known. Three gives away enough information that I knew what was going to happen somewhat with 1 and 2. It didn’t bother me though. I am not a reader that cares about spoilers spoiling. I often even seek them out to be honest. But this series has characters that are sprinkled throughout the individual books and I love it. It helps get to know them more and let’s me feel familiar with characters as they are introduced.

Summary: A Brief Overview (Without Major Spoilers)

From Good Reads:

Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.

And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she can’t refuse.

What Worked for Me:

Jacob! Out of all the guys presented in the 3 books of the series, Jacob has captured my heart. He is awkward, introverted, and anxious… so me in male form. He just wants to make everyone happy and puts others first almost to a fault.

Briana’s acceptance of Jacob: She doesn’t act like his introverted nature is a personality flaw. She outright calls out people who do and I am here for it! As someone who is introverted it is frustrating when people act like there is something wrong with me.

What Didn’t Work for Me: Trigger Warnings and Criticisms

Jacob’s brother… DUDE! BRO CODE! Without giving it away just know that if one of my sisters did what Jeremiah did to Jacob, we would not have a relationship. Jacob is beyond kind and lets his own feelings give way for his brother’s happiness and it is not realistic to me.

Lack of communication: The main characters’ inability to communicate despite the importance they put on it. Just like with the other books in the series, the MCs spend a lot of time guessing what the other is thinking instead of asking. It’s a plot device that annoys me. They spend sections of the book emphasising how important it is to communicate or naturally communicate and yet when it comes to how they feel for each other they assume incorrectly and cause unnecessary drama.

Final Thoughts:

This is a cute addition to the series. I felt like it fit in with the other 3 and I would say it was my favorite of the 3. I just really resonated with the characters the most here. I would highly recommend the Part of Your World Trilogy. This was my first series to read by Jimenez and it for sure won’t be my last.
