Book Review: How to Choose a Guy in Ten Days by Lila Monroe

Rating: ★★☆☆(3/5)

Introduction:

Released September 2018. Read January 2025.

I needed a palate cleanser after marathoning the Empyrean Series. This one was a free one on a stock your Kindle day. I would say that I am glad that I didn’t spend money on it. It’s not that it’s a terrible read but it’s called Chick Flick Club for a reason. The other two in the series are You’ve Got Male and Frisky Business. Cute plays on other titles I will give the author that. I don’t think I would pay money though to check out the other two. If you want a super quick, not deep, cute romance story then this works.

Summary: A Brief Overview (Without Major Spoilers)

Gemma and Zach Morris (Yes he’s named after a Saved by the Bell character) are neighbors. Zach is nicknamed as Big Foot by Gemma. She is a stylist who is up for promotion and Zach becomes her latest project. Think along the lines of She’s All That and you have the dynamics of these two characters.

What Worked for Me:

It’s a romcom. A quick, no nonsense rom com.

The chemistry of the MCs. It wasn’t a deep level that I like in a lot of other RomComs but it was there enough that I could check it off the list.

What Didn’t Work for Me: Trigger Warnings and Criticisms

The MMC is too perfect. He shaves his beard and is instantly a “uber hottie”. He also is unemployed by choice because he can afford to be. Meanwhile the FMC randomly loves to help out at women’s shelters. Both realize they had the other all wrong. It’s too cliche for me.

Final Thoughts:

If you just need a piece of fluff to read, this is the book for you.
